Following the completion of the official Ubuntu Architecture Summer Abroad Program Design Brief, ZFMK Creative developed a strategic suite of branded graphics and promotional content to announce the competition launch and drive program participation. These assets supported Ubuntu ASAP’s inaugural design/build class in collaboration with Ubuntu Design Group and Design Class, inviting students worldwide to propose a home for the Ngcobo family in rural South Africa.

Our creative goal was twofold: to increase visibility across social channels and platforms, and to help prospective applicants feel both informed and emotionally invested.

PROJECT SCOPE

ZFMK Creative provided visual storytelling and campaign support across digital and print media. Deliverables included:

  • Instagram carousel and grid posts to announce the brief’s release and deadlines

  • A fully designed Instagram story set for mobile viewing (static)

  • A printable A4 poster, distributed digitally to schools and institutions and listed on competition hubs such as American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS)

  • Copywriting for multiple platforms, tailored to educators, students, and program supporters

  • Asset scheduling strategy, integrated with existing Ubuntu ASAP content streams to optimize engagement and narrative flow

All materials were aligned with Ubuntu ASAP’s brand identity and echoed themes of empowerment, education, and architectural justice.

Process & Collaboration

We worked in close coordination with Ubuntu ASAP’s leadership, with collaborators based in California, South Africa, and New York. ZFMK Creative led concept development for promotional framing, developed messaging hooks, and applied the established visual language to new mediums.

A core visual motif—a photograph held in a frame—was used to symbolize the central ethos of the program: that people are the life of spaces, and architecture is the frame. This image anchored the broader campaign, appearing in social tiles, posters, and press features.

ZFMK also curated and retouched the featured images, gained permission for use, and organized all assets for press distribution and reposting by partner organizations.

OTHER WORK RELATED TO THIS PROJECT

ZFMK Creative also designed a series of celebratory posts at the conclusion of the competition—spotlighting the three finalist teams and unveiling the family’s selected winner. While visually aligned with this campaign, these assets are part of a larger, multi-month social media strategy and will be featured in a separate project profile:
